Signs Indicating You Need Furnace Repairs

When it comes to knowing when things are broken, some problems are easier to spot than others. These issues are easy to see because they are visible, while others remain broken or not functioning properly because they aren’t as readily seen. Furnaces are one area that can go unnoticed until it breaks down entirely. However, there are signs to watch out for that indicate when your furnace might need repairs.

Here are a few signs to look for when your furnace doesn’t seem to be working properly:

  1. Air isn’t coming out of the vents: Occasionally air won’t be coming out of your heater vents, even when your furnace is on. There might be a blockage in your furnace ducts, or your furnace might not be working at all. No air is a sign that there may need to be repairs done to your furnace.
  2. Cold air: If cold air is coming out of your vents, there may be a blockage in an air filter. Air filters help bring air to the furnace heat exchanger, and without air flow the heat won’t circulate throughout your house. Additionally, if your pilot light isn’t lit, the furnace burners won’t be able to heat your home, either.
  3. Higher energy costs: If you notice that your energy bill is higher than usual, it might be because your furnace isn’t functioning properly. If your air filters are clogged, your furnace is having to work even harder to heat your home.
  4. Age: If your furnace is getting up in years, it might be time for an overhaul. Age can cause a furnace to decrease in efficiency as parts wear out, filters get clogged, and other parts get worn. There is a possibility that the furnace will need to be replaced.
  5. Noises: If your furnace is making noises outside of the ordinary, it might be time to get it looked at. A noisy furnace could indicate malfunctioning parts, a broken section of the furnace.
  6. Dust: If your furnace is spitting out dusty air, there may be a problem with your air filter. Dust, mold, pollen, and other allergens settle in your ducts when your furnace isn’t in use, and when it is turned back on these particles can be pushed into your home.
